Deluxe 100 Hours

Spotlighting STELLAR Volunteer Projects through Documentaries

Role: Content Producer, Copywriter

Each year, Deluxe Corporation awards a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to a handful of its thousands of employees across the U.S. Each participant in the 100 Hours to Make a Difference program receives 100 hours of paid time off to volunteer for a charity or organization of their choosing.

Since 2016, I’ve interviewed these volunteers and produced photo and video stories that introduce readers and viewers to the organizations that benefit from their volunteer work — from patients recovering from spinal injuries to communities ravaged by flooding to homeless youth.

Each story is an inspiring example of how everyone — regardless of career path, background or passion — can give back in some way to an organization that needs volunteers. These small pieces of service journalism are among the most rewarding projects I’ve produced.

“I love music. I go to live shows all the time,” says Raye Anne Hurst, a quality assurance engineer at Deluxe’s office in Atlanta, Georgia. “But I can’t carry a tune in a bucket. I’ve tried playing music, and it’s just not for me.”
